SAVOIR VIVRE

Luxury crewed French barge cruises in Burgundy
(Bourgogne) France

SAVOIR VIVRE: Ability to live life well and with intelligent enjoyment, meeting every situation with poise, good manners, and elegance. Etymology: French, to know (how) to live

Savoir Vivre is a newly-built (2009) hotel barge, purposely designed for barge charter cruises. Savoir Vivre has a crew of two, and accommodates up to 8 guests in 4 identical cabins, each with ensuite bathroom facilities. Their program is designed to be affordable and to appeal to travelers more interested in experiences than amenities.

The founder and your host of Savoir Vivre, James Waggott, is by no means a "newbie" to barge cruising. James is the the son of one of the partners of Prosperite, an Ultra-Deluxe 8-passenger barge with an excellent reputation throughout the inland waterways of France. It was during cruises aboard Prosperite that the seed of an idea was planted... which developed into a vision.

Savoir Vivre is a new expression of what is already a fabulously appealing experience. The essence of James's "Savoir Vivre way" is to pluck the finest elements of Ultra-Deluxe barge cruising, add a dose of healthy adventure by way of authentic dining experiences in local restaurants every evening rather than staying on the boat with a private chef.  James' love of French life, cuisine and culture is what drives this concept and his experiences with Prosperite and its veteran crew and Captain assure you of a trusted host for your time aboard.

As James says: "The memories you take away are about the good times spent together, the epic scenery, the quietly cultured and proud ways of rural France, the wine, the food, and of lazily cycling beside the ship as she quietly plies along."

A cruise along the Burgundy canal truly is a voyage of discovery encompassing culture, architecture, history and natural beauty. In reality this means there is always something to do. This includes enjoying private vineyard tours, exploring ancient chateaux, browsing authentic markets and cycling along the towpaths. You may wish to walk into the local village to a café in the square, balloon over divinely beautiful countryside or play a round of golf on one of the several high quality courses nearby.
