FAQ: Frequently Asked QuestionsHow do I get to and from Emma? Your English speaking guide will meet you at the pre-arranged pick-up point. He will drive you in our air-conditioned minibus to Emma. At the end of your cruise, he will drive you to a pre-arranged transfer point for your onward journey. How big are the cabins and beds? The cabins, including ensuite bathrooms, are roughly 9 square meters (100 square feet). The "Yellow Cabin" has a permanent double bed 140cm (4'6") wide. The "Blue" and "Green" cabins can be made up with two singles 80cm (2'6") wide or a double bed 160cm (5'2") wide. All cabins have fitted wardrobes with sliding mirrored doors. One side shelving and the other hanging space. We recommend soft luggage on board (not rigid) for easier stowage. How are the cabins equipped? All cabins have individually controlled air-conditioning units. Hairdryers, bathrobes and towels are provided. The cabins are carpeted and have opening windows. What about electricity? All the lighting on board Emma is 24 volts, but each cabin has a 220-volt socket to enable you to plug in the hairdryer, your phone, camera or computer. Don't forget to bring a suitable adapter and/or transformer for US appliances. Can I smoke on board? There is a no-smoking policy on board Emma. Guests who wish to smoke may do so on the upper deck with the permission of ALL other guests. Do we spend all day on board? We cruise for approximately 3 hours a day. There are daily excursions in line with our guests' wishes to nearby places of interest. All entrance fees to museums and chateaux are included. You will have plenty of time to walk, paint, read, cycle or whatever takes your fancy. Nothing is obligatory... just relax and be pampered. Are there any hidden extras? The only extras are your own spending money and use of the barge's telephone. Everything else is included in the price. However, gratuities for the crew are at your discretion. See the "Included / Not Included list". Can we swim in the canal? The canal is shallow and boats churn up the mud. It's not suitable for swimming but we are often in easy reach of the sea, rivers, or lakes. What clothes should I bring? Dress code on board and on the Canal du Midi is casual but please feel free to dress up. If you like visiting old villages and towns, bring good walking shoes as many streets are cobbled. For your own comfort and safety, flat, non-slip shoes are advisable on board. Bring a jacket or sweater as evenings can be cool when there is a star-filled sky. Can the Irish cook? This one can! Liz is probably the perfect example of "the exception proving the rule". |
